This one is for Beti, that wanted a book but gets a blog with all my luv.
Today, 23rd of April is my favorite day of the year.
It seems that many years ago, before I was born, Catalonia was a peaceful region until one day a dragon appeared with all his fire and started to threaten everyone around. He killed many farmers he also set on fire many fields and houses bringing despair to the area. The dragon told the king that if they gave him a maiden a month, he would stop the attacks. So once a month, there was a draw and a maiden was selected as a tribute to the dragon. One day, the inevitable happened and it was the turn of the king’s daughter.
Meanwhile, on the other side of the world, George always dreamt to be famous writer but he was the son of the king and he had to learn to be a good knight. However, everybody in court knew that George was only good for dreaming, reading and writing poems to unknown loved ones . One day, he dreamt that the most beautiful maiden was about to be killed by a dragon in the far region of Catalonia. He fell in love of his dream and decided that he would not be happy until he rescued her from the hands of the dragon.

The following day, he rode his white stallion. He did not stop until he saw a dragon about to eat the most beautiful woman he had ever seen. He took his sword and he killed the dragon in a single move. From the blood of the dragon, a rose bush grew (very fast as dragon blood has special powers). George cut the rose and gave it to the beautiful maiden. In return, she gave him a book as she heard that he had a sensible mind and liked reading and writing.
Since that day, the region was in peace and celebrates it in the most original way. A girl gives a book the boy she likes and the boy gives the girl a rose. How romantic. Even now, Barcelona still follows the tradition and today it was blooming with flowers and books all thrught the day. It has been MAGIC!

So my recommendation to my foreingn readers is…come to Barcelona this time of the year, its mega romantic! And I promise…no dragons around, Saint George keeps all of them at bay!
Finally, a rose for the ones that did not get one :)
Feliç Sant Jordia tots!
